The product replacement algorithm is polynomial

چکیده
The product replacement algorithm is a heuristic designed to generate random group elements. The idea is to run a random walk on generating k-tuples of the group, and then output a random component. The algorithm was designed by Leedham-Green and Soicher ([31]), and further investigated in [12]. It was found to have an outstanding performance, much better than the the previously known algorithms (see [12, 22, 26]). The algorithm is now included in two major group algebra packages GAP [42] and MAGMA [10]. In spite of the many serious attempts and partial results, (see [6, 14, 15, 21, 22, 32, 39, 40]), the analysis of the algorithm remains difficult at best. For small values of k even graph connectivity becomes a serious obstacle (see [19, 37, 39, 40]). The most general results are due to Diaconis and Saloff–Coste [22], who used a state of the art analytic technique to obtain polynomial bounds in special cases, and (sub)-exponential bounds in general case. The main result of this paper is a polynomial upper bound for the cost of the algorithm, provided k is large enough.

A Unified Approach for Design of Lp Polynomial Algorithms
By summarizing Khachiyan's algorithm and Karmarkar's algorithm forlinear program (LP) a unified methodology for the design of polynomial-time algorithms for LP is presented in this paper. A key concept is the so-called extended binary search (EBS) algorithm introduced by the author. It is used as a unified model to analyze the complexities of the existing modem LP algorithms and possibly, help ...
متن کاملOptimizing the warranty period by cuckoo meta-heuristic algorithm in heterogeneous customers’ population
Warranty is now an integral part of each product. Since its length is directly related to the cost of production, it should be set in such a way that it would maximize revenue generation and customers’ satisfaction. Furthermore, based on the behavior of customers, it is assumed that increasing the warranty period to earn the trust of more customers leads to more sales until the market is sat...
متن کاملReduction in Cache Memory Power Consumption based on Replacement Quantity
Today power consumption is considered to be one of the important issues. Therefore, its reduction plays a considerable role in developing systems. Previous studies have shown that approximately 50% of total power consumption is used in cache memories. There is a direct relationship between power consumption and replacement quantity made in cache. The less the number of replacements is, the less...
متن کاملNarumi-Katayama Polynomial of Some Nano Structures
The Narumi-Katayama index is the first topological index defined by the product of some graph theoretical quantities. Let G be a simple graph. Narumi-Katayama index of G is defined as the product of the degrees of the vertices of G. In this paper, we define the Narumi-Katayama polynomial of G. Next, we investigate some properties of this polynomial for graphs and then, we obtain ...
متن کاملA POLYNOMIAL TIME BRANCH AND BOUND ALGORITHM FOR THE SINGLE ITEM ECONOMIC LOT SIZING PROBLEM WITH ALL UNITS DISCOUNT AND RESALE
The purpose of this paper is to present a polynomial time algorithm which determines the lot sizes for purchase component in Material Requirement Planning (MRP) environments with deterministic time-phased demand with zero lead time. In this model, backlog is not permitted, the unit purchasing price is based on the all-units discount system and resale of the excess units is possible at the order...
